Most people whether they practice Yoga or not have some idea of its many benefits. But what many people don't realise is that anybody can benefit from the practice of Yoga, regardless of their current condition.
And Yoga can not only have a positive effect on the well-being of our physical body but also that of our mind and our mental and emotional state. My intention is thus to guide and assist you in discovering the optimal way of integrating Yoga into your life and thereby to access, maintain and enjoy a healthier body and consequently a more positive state of mind. After many years of practicing and studying different Yoga styles and methods of teaching, my own practice and my teaching was fundamentally influenced by the teachings of Paul Grilley, in particular his Functional Approach to Yoga. This is not another 'new' style of Yoga but as its name implies, it is an approach and one that can be applied to any existing style. Based on the fact, which is actually rather obvious but generally overlooked or ignored all together, that we are all unique, not only as individuals but also in our physical bodies, this approach focuses on how best to adapt Yoga poses to our unique body rather than forcing it into the ‘ideal’ pose, which is often impossible or harmful or both.To quote Paul: "What is important is not how it looks but how it feels.” |
As the state of our body and mind is constantly changing, at times a more gentle and quiet practice, such as Yin and Restorative Yoga is appropriate, while at other times a more Yang and stimulating Vinyasa practice may be more beneficial. I offer all of these in my sessions or a combination, always determined and guided by what is most suitable. At all times, I wish to create and provide a supportive, safe and enjoyable space for you to explore and practice in!
